Duties of a Coach

For the younger age groups (U6-U9), you don’t have to be experienced to be a Coach!  If you are enthusiastic, responsible, a good organizer and a good learner, the Club will provide you with the resources to become a successful Coach!

Pre-season

*Organize a weekly training session.  For the U6 to U9 age groups, one-hour sessions are ideal.  For U10 & upwards, one and a half-hour sessions are ideal.  Best time for training is from 4.00pm onwards on a weekday.  If training session is from 5.00pm onwards, select a training ground which has lighting (necessary during mid-winter).  Saturday training should be avoided.  Sunday training is acceptable but certainly not preferable.

During the season

For training:

*Bring a whistle, first aid kit, bibs and witches hats.

*Plan the structure of your session on paper before each session.

*Encourage 100% player attendance and make training enjoyable and competitive.

*Encourage assistance by parents.  For the younger age groups, you need an assistant!

If more than one parent offers to coach, give it a go!  Work as a team!

For matches:

*Bring your LSC Sports Bag with your match ball, goalie shirt first aid kit and a whistle.

*Organize a roster for half/part games to ensure each player has equal time off the field. Frequent interchange is allowed up to and including U16 to ensure all players participate equally.

*Determine each player’s playing positions. During the season, players in the U6-U9 age groups may be rotated through all the playing positions including the goalkeeper’s position. For U10 & upwards, players will tend to settle into specific positions and this should be encouraged. Always maintain a balance between positional rotation and team performance

*Determine the game tactics.

After the midpoint, as well as at the end of the season

*Must provide the Club with Coaches Reports for your team.
